Since the launch of Workplace in 2016, the core incentive was to give a tool to all employees to make them get the job done faster, connect people wherever they are in the organisation from the shop floor to HQ, and collaborate with their teammates.

The rapid growth of users continues after reaching the 3 million paid users in October 2019. We’ve seen some great customers join Workplace over the last 6 months like Thai Union, Adeo, Sephora, Virgin Australia, Petco and more.

The journey to 5m paying customers

Next to the new customers on this journey also existing customers increased massively with the changing environment and the ongoing development of Workplace. In these challenging times, people rely more and more on tools to connect not only on Workplace, but across the entire Facebook family of apps.

Video Collaboration as the New Normal of working.

In the current global pandemic we’ve seen the need for remote working increase across the world. Now that we see some countries starting up again and people are returning to the office, a lot of organizations are making a strong statement by allowing their employees to work from home for a longer term.

Video collaboration is making this possible by working closer together even when apart. When we look forward this will only get bigger over the next months.

This is why Workplace is announcing a huge commitment in doubling down in enhancing their video presence. All these new features are implemented to accelerate Workplace’s vision for the future of work.

Workplace Rooms

Workplace Rooms is a virtual meeting space with unlimited meeting time that makes it easier than ever to connect with up to 50 people - even if they’re not in your company or don’t have a Workplace account. Workplace is using the same technology from the recent Messenger Rooms announcement and adapting it to the enterprise, transforming video collaboration for businesses.

Live Producer
Broadcasting live from your phone is a great way to touch base with your team. Now we’re adding Live Producer, for when performance really matters. With Live Producer, you can stream reliable, high-quality live video straight from your computer, and access new features like screen sharing, Q&As, polls and real-time health metrics.

Live Q&A

Live Q&A allows leaders to engage with their audience by crowdsourcing questions during live events such as town halls and Ask Me Anything sessions. Given the increased need for leadership teams everywhere to listen to and stay connected to their employees, Live Q&A offers a consumer-grade experience to engage with their entire workforce.

Live Captions, Translations & Caption Editing

Automatic captions in multiple languages make live broadcasts more inclusive and accessible, giving your audience, including those with hearing disabilities and different language proficiencies, an easy way to follow along. The auto-generated translations help you save time, while in-line editing ensures captions are not only correct but aligned with the video timing.

New Workplace on Portal Features

The last announcement is Workplace Live on Portal, which gives Workplace users a professional broadcast experience by using Portal’s Smart Camera and Smart Sound to engage with their colleagues. We’ll add the ability to Watch Workplace Live on Portal in June.

Finally, adding support for Workplace on Portal TV and Workplace Rooms on Portal, which lets you invite up to 50 people on a group call with the ability to add custom backgrounds during video calls, soon.

All these exciting features are being released to Workplace customers in June and Workplace Rooms will be free to all Workplace customers until December 2020.
